Winmail Viewer - Open dat file App Reviews

53 Customer Reviews:

Its a little clunky, in that you cant drag and drop, not that I have noticed anyways, but it does the job and at $1.99 is very reasonable. There is an online winmail coverter, but it freezes my Mac 9 out of 10 times so this app is a way better alternative!

I hat those weird win mail.dat files fastened in the mails. It watsted a lot of time to figure out what it is and how to open it. Im not a computer savvy, so you may know how annoyed I was when got the annoying winmail files. But this app helped me out. It opened the winmail.dat files fast and ran well on my old Macbook. Thanks a lot!

Yes, it extracts the contents of winmail.dat files, and in that sense it’s great. However, once it has extracted the contents, you cannot drag and drop the files where you want them…and you can’t even select them all and save them somewhere together. You have to click on each file one by one, click the save button to open the dialogue box, select the save location, and hit save. FOR EACH FILE. This is way too labour-intensive to be useful. I’d actually like a refund, even though it was only a dollar.

At $1.19, this is absolute steal. The missing drag and drop is not such a huge deal, as most of DAT files I receive have few attachments and I usually need just one or two anyway.

I think this program is really gut. Its very easy to extract attachment files out from Winmail.dat file, only simple steps I can take control of the Winmail.dat files on my Mac.

I tried this app on over 10 different winmail.dat files, worked on 1. Most gave error message: The document “winmail-47.dat” could not be opened. That TNEF format file does not have any attachments.

Very easy to view win mail.dat files on my MacBook with 10.7, hasnt failed me once…very good app for me to view Microsoft Outlook win mail.dat files and easy to use for non-tech people.

Please don’t update this app in case you break it! It works perfectly on all my mails (i.e. attachments) in the Apple Mail app. Before, I have to save the winmail.dat file to my desktop, rename the extention to .PDF and then it would open up in Preview. Equally, I could write an Apple Script to do the conversion whenever I save a certain file to a certain folder. But why bother? Now with Winmail Viewer, I can just double-click the attachment winmail.dat file in the mail, and Winmail Viewer automatically launches and offers the option to preview or save the file. That’s fantastic.

Works great!

I have one sender that I always get that pesky winmail file from, and this solved that problem. Works great, well worth it.

This app does what it promised. The UI is basic but easy-operate. Finally I can read my win mail.dat attachments on MAC. Its absolutely a great liitle tool!

Worked exactly per your instructions. Reading the low reveiws it appears , most failed to read & follow them. Those who are rating low aren’t reading all of the instructions on this page. They are either not getting emails from outlook with attachments or they have just given up on them. Thank you!

Great little tool that works as it should to decompose and open winmail files often contained in emails. For those that can’t open the extracted file without saving to hard disk, it opens right up on my Mac. I think this is the right choice to people who need to view them on Mac.

Outlook users can hardly open a winmail file. So, Im extremely happy that this is solved now with this tool. It really works fine on my Macbook. I also appreciate the very precise description. Ok, its not as seamless as click-and-open. But that has not been my priority and I acknowloedge the tool has just done its first step. Five stars and a big thank you to the developer.

Unable to open winmail.dat

Something is not working. Perhaps I need a tutorial program. Help! Winmail Viewer opens nothing for me.

poleturn · 12 years ago

Perfect! I needn’t to worry about viewing the files from winmail after I bought this app. I have never downloaded such a complete app. It helped me to solve the problem I met. It is a good helper. No drawbacks. At least I think so.
